Steven M. Weinberg, founder of Holmes Weinberg PC (a law firm), will be given the 2014 Harvey Baskin Dolphin Award for Malibu business leaders and professionals who have served the community through funding and service.
“He has shown a passionate interest in helping Malibu non-profit organizations and the entire Malibu community,” his wife Dana said.
Steven Weinberg has served as an active board member as well as pro bono legal counsel for all legal services for five different local nonprofit organizations: the Malibu Jewish Center & Synagogue (MJCS) since 2008, the Malibu Community Labor Exchange (MCLE) since 2012, the Malibu Film Society (MFS) since it was founded in 2009, the Malibu Playhouse since 2011 and the Malibu Dolphin Charitable Foundations, since it was formed in 2014. Weinberg was also responsible for obtaining 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status for MFS and the Dolphin Foundation.
Weinberg doesn’t limit himself to legal help, he pitches in with hard labor too. He can “often be found handing out popcorn and greeting guests at Malibu Film Society screenings,” said Malibu local Lori Gray.
In addition, Weinberg has led retreats for MJCS and MCLE, makes financial contributions to local nonprofit organizations, and helps shape business and marketing strategies for the groups that will allow them to tackle issues head-on and attain success for their organizations.
And those aren’t the only local nonprofits to benefit from Weinberg’s generosity – he’s also provided pro bono legal services to Julia Holland’s EcoKids; and his firm, Holmes Weinberg PC, actively supports, in a variety of ways, Malibu Friends of Music, Women in Film, Interfaith Inventions, the Anti-Defamation League and Bet Tzedek.
In his professional life, Weinberg has been an award recipient for a number of years by a number of peer-nominated organizations, including Best Lawyers in America (U.S. News & World Report), Southern California Super Lawyers and World Trademark Review (as one of the top trademark lawyers in California and the world).
Both Weinberg and his firm specialize in deals, transactions and litigation relating to global entertainment, brands, trademarks and copyrights, among many others.
He and his wife, Dana, have lived in Malibu for 13 years and have one daughter, Rachel.
