The Malibu city council will sue the Southern California Edison Co. over the Woolsey Fire. No details were released, however, as to what the exact nature of the claim will be, or the amount of the loss. Details: https://www.radiomalibu.net/city-to-sue-sce/

Victims who lost their houses to the Woolsey Fire are pressing for the city to cut them a break … on the fees being charged to review their blueprints to rebuild.

It costs an estimated $13,415 to bring a house plan through the building safety plan check … and that’s for a routine project on a flat lot without geotechnical or wastewater issues.

Some fire victims are asking that the city waive fees that are charged to cover staff costs to review plans for safety …. or maybe cut a discount … or at the least justify the expense.

City staffers have checked other California cities … hit by recent large wildfire catastrophes … and found that they are not cutting plan check review fees for fire victims.

And under state law … those fees can only reflect the actual costs for staff time and overhead.

The issue is controversial .. it heads to the city council for a special budget meeting tomorrow evening.

——

Plans to sell a third of the largest vacant lot in Malibu are moving on to the next step.

Despite 10 people speaking against the concept last night … the Malibu city council voted to refer the controversial land sale to three city commissions to gather comment.  Details: https://www.radiomalibu.net/chili-cookoff-talks-to-continue/t elsewhere … says city manager Reva Feldman.
