I would like to congratulate the Malibu Kiwanis Club for running a most successful Chili Cook-off. Last week the Kiwanis reported that the 2010 Chili Cook-off had a banner year, attracting some 12,000 visitors. Conservative estimates for a Chili Cook-off event with 12,000 visitors peg gross revenues at around $300,000. ($100,000 from the car raffle, $170,000 from attendance and rides plus $30,000 of additional revenue from the silent auction, food sales and parking). Costs for this event have historically topped out at 60% of revenues, or around $180,000, leaving a profit of approximately $120,000 for distribution to Malibu organizations. With $120,000 to be distributed, this should be a banner year for contributions to programs for Malibu’s kids.
Thank you to those who volunteered their time to make this event a success. And again, congratulations to the Kiwanis club and to the fortunate organizations that will benefit from these upcoming significant charitable contributions.
