Head for finish line

This past weekend the annual Zuma Triathlon took place. As residents of West Malibu, we are used to being inconvenienced yearly by this function, but this year took the cake! Residents of Malibu Park were not allowed into their own neighborhoods by sheriffs posted at Bush Drive, Bonsall Road and Guernsey Road. They were told they could not make a right turn on these streets and enter their own neighborhood until after 11 a.m.-all this so as not to disturb the bike portion of the race!

The Zuma Triathlon is a private, for-profit function, which the city of Malibu allows on our public beach property. The race has grown in size and popularity year by year, but it has now become intolerable. When local residents are not allowed onto their own streets for the benefit of a function that serves no purpose to the city of Malibu or its residents, then it is time for that event to be ended.
