On the occasion of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month I would like to take the opportunity to thank the community of Malibu for its generous support of the Channel Islands Alzheimer’s Institute. Our institute is a group of scientists working on the campus of California State University, Channel Islands. We focus on the discovery of mechanism-based drugs to treat and prevent Alzheimer’s disease. Our scientific focus is particularly in the area of neurodegeneration and, through the study of adult neural stem cells, a new approach toward nerve regeneration or “neurogenesis.”

During the past year our institute has received support and encouragement from many in Malibu. I would particularly like to express our thanks to Lilly Lawrence, Jena Chanel, Ozzie Silna, Grant Adamson, and William B. Stevenson. These individuals have provided encouragement and support that has made our drug discovery work possible. We would also like to express our gratitude to the Malibu Kiwanis who took us on among the many good causes they support annually, and to the Malibu Chamber of Commerce who has taken us on as a nonprofit member. Thanks also to The Malibu Times for introducing us to many in the Malibu community. We look forward to continued involvement with all of you in Malibu in the coming year as we work toward the treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. Thank you!
