This is KBUU News:

= Hundreds of muscle cars … motorcycles and motorheads shut down P C H on Saturday.

= The state highway is taken over off at Neptunes Net for a speed exhibition …

= One car is impounded … by the lone CHP officer who finally shows up.

This is Malibu’s only local daily news.

It’s the (((( internet ))) edition of the ((( Monday ))) news … from Radio Malibu ….

F-M 99 point 1 K B U U.

Good morning … I’m Hans Laetz reporting.

——

One guy in L-A declares a P C H Massacre on Instagram … and the road is closed to all traffic. This is the sound from Pacific Coast Highway Saturday … in western Malibu ….

NEWSCART 77541 MASSACRE BED

[[[sounds of loud engines & peeling tires]]]

The state highway west of Malibu was shut down for a half hour … Saturday … when an impromptu gang of fast and furious muscle car drivers took over the road for peel outs.

Car enthusiasts gathered at a Vons parking lot in West LA Saturday morning at 9.

Motorcycles… mustangs … challengers and Camaros …. Monopolize the Pacific coast highway through Malibu much of the morning.

We have posted videos that they shot … surrounding cars … passing on the shoulder … squealing tires and roaring deep throated engines.

It was mad Max all morning.

The destination was the long straight away in front of the Neptunes net restaurant … just over the line in Ventura County.

For more than a half hour … the state highway was blocked as cars spun rubber … cut

donuts and did other dangerous maneuvers.

Young men with cell phone cameras stood in the roadway … taking video.

Finally … one lone CHP officer pulled in from Ventura.

TAKEOVER :44 QQQQ [[[ANNOUNCER]]] BAIL IT OUT.

SOUND OF LOUD ENGINES.

REPORTER: on the video, a Highway Patrol officer is heard and seen arriving.

SOUND OF LOUD ENGINES, AND AN ARRIVING SIREN

SIREN CUTS OUT, OFFICER ANNOUNCES OVER P-A SYSTEM AMI:

“Get out of the road”

“The video shows hundreds of people scattering off PCH.

CROWD: “Go! Go! Go! Move that cone!”

REPORTER: “One black car inches into the parking lot at Neptunes Net.”

There are also photos of that car being impounded

Its owner is asking his friends on the internet today to help him with money … to bail it out.

It’s not clear if there were any tickets written or people arrested … but it’s clear all but one motorist simply got in their car and sped back to Los Angeles through Malibu.

——

But it wasn’t just Pacific Coast Highway … of course … dealing with speeding idiots over the weekend.

Latigo Canyon Road was … as usual … taken over by racers and daredevils.

One genius managed to spin a McLaren F1 automobile off the pavement and down a very steep embankment 30 feet.

The driver apparently scrambled up the hill … got a ride from a buddy … and abandoned the McLaren over the edge.

Those cars sell for up to 10 million dollars.

——-

The watch commanders at the Melba lost Hills Sheriff Station were not aware of the motorized mayhem when we check with them at midday.

Nobody called to report apparently.

And apparently … no black and whites on the coast highway as the motorcade zoomed by.

We could not reach the CHP in Ventura County over the weekend for an arrest total.

As far as we know … there were no crashes or injuries.

——

Hard to imagine that a vic presidential motorcade up P C H would be … relatively speaking … only a minor inconvenience this weekend.

VP Mike pence slipped into Malibu virtually unannounced … for a big fundraiser yesterday at the home of industrialist Marc Stern in the Malibu colony.

A handful of demonstrators turned up at the last minute at Webb Way … but compared to the motorcade of roaring engines Saturday … that was nothing.

The controversial Malibu high school reconstruction project … and possible conversion of Juan Cabrillo Elementary school into a middle school … goes before the Santa Monica Malibu school board Thursday night.

This meeting will be at Malibu City Hall … 5:30 Thursday.

The school board will determine if it will continue spending money to mitigate PCB contamination in the older buildings at Malibu hi.

Small amounts of the cancer-causing chemical have been detected … sealed up in the floor tile and other locations.

We should stress that frequent testing has shown virtually no PCB in the air or on surfaces … where it can be transmitted to humans.

But parents and employees have made it clear that leaving the PCB sealed up is untenable.

And an emerging consensus within the school community is that continuing to pour money into a dysfunctional High school building is a waste.

Moving the middle school to eat cabrio campus would mean transferring 200 elementary students to point doom.

Only scattered opposition has developed so far to that.

For the first time ever … a rocket to Mars will be launched from the West Coast … and Malibu residents will have a front row seat.

The InSight Mars lander is scheduled to launch at 4:05 in the morning … this Saturday .. from Vandenberg Air Force Base … 90 miles up the coast from Malibu.

It should be spectacular.

InSight will launch atop an Atlas V-401 rocket … a big rocket engine.

InSight will be the first mission to another planet to leave Earth from Vandenberg Air Force Base.

Missions to other planets normally launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida and fly east, over water.

That’s because launching towards the east adds the momentum of Earth’s eastward rotation to the launch vehicle’s own thrust.

But the Atlas V-401 is powerful enough to fly south towards the sea from Vandenberg Air Force Base … in Santa Barbara County.

Weather permitting, InSight’s pre-dawn launch (4:05 a.m.) may be visible for more than 10 million Californians from their homes.

NASA and the Air Force are bracing for a big crowd at Vandenburg.

But the space agency says you will have a great view from Malibu.

They say

Just wake up early, check the InSight Website for assurance the launch is still on schedule, go outside, look at the western sky, marvel at the rocket’s flare as it travels southward, and cheer InSight bon voyage to Mars.

Hackers have successfully diverted some traffic intended for the KBUU web page.

Starting yesterday … some internet providers were diverting KBUU listeners to a pirate web page.

The KBUU web site itself is not affected … just the routing to it.

Our internet hosting service is working on the issue.

We have an alternate path to the KBU audio stream … posted at the KBUU Facebook page.
