Andrew Springer

Since he began middle school in sixth grade, Malibu High School junior Andrew Springer has been an active member of the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu, an extracurricular program dedicated to mentoring middle and high school students and providing them with engaging and inspirational activities. The club provides Malibu teen services to the most diverse population in the community and, according to its director, Springer has been instrumental in furthering the club’s mission through his volunteer service.

Recently chosen as one of this year’s 2019 Dolphin Awards winners, Springer’s commitment to the club has shown his dedication–overcoming (and excelling beyond) his personal experiences with cyberbullying.

BGCM Executive Director Kasey Earnest nominated Springer and said he has been a perfect example to protecting and empowering kids.

“I fully recommend Andrew as an outstanding young person, a role model and a voice that needs to be heard,” Earnest said in an email to The Malibu Times. “Andrew has incredible ideas for attacking cyber bullies at home and in other communities.”

Recently, Andrew was named BGCM Youth of the Year runner-up.

Earnest said Springer participated in countless hours in volunteering in the club and said he chooses to use his voice to talk about his challenges in regard to being a target of bullying.
