The actions of the despicable citizen who cut the wires on the lights at Malibu High is just another display of endless hate that’s surrounding everything in our world. It seems as if every story about our world, our government and our local Malibu issues have clear lines drawn and hate is on each side. “If you’re not with us, you’re against us” is the prevailing sentiment. What happened? It’s everywhere and now it’s in our own backyard-our high school football field.
There are going to a lot of letters and a lot of finger pointing, but what is this teaching our kids? They all know that someone with a significant electrical skill set actually cut the wires with expensive tools.
Who was it? I, for one, am willing to put up a $1,000 reward for the name of the person. When is this rancor going to stop? The kids are watching and learning. I love the poignant sentiment of Oscar Hammerstein:
“You’ve got to be taught
to hate and fear
You’ve got to be taught
from year to year
It’s got to be drummed
in your dear little ear
You’ve got to be carefully taught.”
Our kids are watching.
