Obituary: Joy H. Loose

Malibu resident Joy H. Loose passed away on Dec. 21, 2014 in Santa Monica at the age of 83. 

Born in Oakland, Calif., Joy was the daughter of Charles and Mary McCullough Hansen and she grew up in Hinsdale and LaGrange, Ill. After graduating from high school, she attended Principia College in Elsah, Ill. In the late ’50s, Joy spent several years as a United Airlines flight attendant, based in Newark, N.J. 

Joy married John R. Loose in 1960 in Arcadia, Calif. They were married for 54 years. 

Joy was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist Malibu, where she served for many years as clerk/treasurer. In addition to being active in the Parent Teacher Association, Joy also served as a teacher’s aide at Juan Cabrillo Elementary School. She worked for Marriott Food Services at Pepperdine University before she retired to help care for her young grandchildren. 

Joy is survived by her husband, John of Malibu; her sons, Erik of Thousand Oaks, Daniel of Burbank, Robert of Los Angeles and Christopher (Sujata) of Carbondale, Colo.; her sisters, Patricia Booth of Chicago, Ill. and Kathleen Colburn of Loyalton, Calif.; and grandchildren, Jason (Jessica), Owen, Reed and Siddharth. 

Private services took place at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks- Griffin Memorial Park in Westlake Village on Dec. 30, 2014.
