All concerned Malibu residents should be opposed to the offshore liquid natural gas terminal proposed by the Australian company, BHP Billiton. The planed project will have the explosive energy of over 200 Hiroshima size bombs. It is 14 miles upwind of Malibu and Santa Monica. A large leak would travel in the prevailing winds closer to shore before igniting, likely causing many thousands of deaths and thousands of horrendous and permanent injuries. The gas company wants us to believe we cannot live without natural gas and dismisses its very real danger. We can live with the energy coming from the sun. Contrary to the hallucinations of the religious freaks now running the United States, the sun has been a perfectly good source of life sustaining energy for hundreds of millions of years.
Let us not succumb to the fears perpetrated by corporations and the reactionary fanatics. Let us forgo the visions of Armageddon that those in power are so fervently chasing. We must work for a better world for our children, not the scorched Earth nightmare promulgated by the powerful propagandists.
Getting back to the point, the offshore floating LNG terminal will not solve California’s future energy challenges. Importing LNG will be a cost of billions of dollars to California’s economy. This money should be spent to develop sources of renewable energy.
