William Tamkin is welcomed back to the dugout.

Malibu High’s bats lit ablaze for the second time in three playoff games last Friday.

The 14-14 Sharks beat Barstow High, 11-1, in a third-round game of the 2017 CIF Southern Section Baseball Championships — Division 6 at Malibu High eight days after pummeling Amino Leadership 20-2 in an opening round contest.

Junior Will Tamkin led Malibu with two hits — a double and a triple. He also had two RBIs and three runs.

The win sent Malibu to a semifinal matchup against Moreno Valley on Wednesday. On June 2, the winner will play the victor of the Southlands Christian vs. Santa Maria game for the Division 6 crown.

Malibu had a total of nine hits and seven RBIs in the win over Barstow. Senior Trevor Simonian racked up two hits, two runs and one RBI. His classmate, Cade McMillin, had two hits, one run and one RBI. McMillin also had two of Malibu’s four stolen bases.

On the mound, pitcher Justin Truschke, a senior, had 10 strikeouts in seven innings.

The Sharks, coached by Billy Ashley, defeated Polytechnic 3-0 in the second round of the playoffs.
