The Malibu High School boys water polo team defeated Rio Mesa, 12-10, on Thursday in the first round of the Southern Section Division IV playoffs.
With their win, the Sharks head to Arroyo Grande for a second-round match-up on Saturday. Jake Philbrick and Carter Baldwin had multiple goals to propel the Sharks to victory against Rio Mesa.
On Tuesday, the school’s girls volleyball team fell in its first-round playoff match against Chadwick, 3-0. The Sharks completed the regular season with a 9-1 record, capturing the Frontier League championship.
