On Tuesday, July 25 from 2-8 p.m., the American Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at Leo Carrillo State Beach, 35000 Pacific Coast Highway. The American Red Cross issued an emergency request for eligible blood and platelet donors to give, due to a critical blood shortage.

“We urge people to give now to help hospital patients who depend on blood and platelets being available when they need it,” said Chris Hrouda, executive vice president, Red Cross Biomedical Services, according to a press release from the American Red Cross. “Summer is one of the most challenging seasons to collect enough blood, but patients need blood no matter what time of year it is.”

To schedule an appointment to donate, use the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org, or call 1.800.REDCROSS (1.800.733.2767). Eligible candidates include those over 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and are generally in good health.
