The Pepperdine men’s volleyball team’s run through the 2008 postseason has been nominated as one of the “Greatest Sports Moments of 2008” by the Los Angeles Sports Council, and fans now have the opportunity to decide the winners in 18 different categories through an on-line voting process. Winners will be revealed on Jan. 23 during a special awards presentation at the Beverly Hilton hotel. The awards show will also air on FSN Prime Ticket.
In the “Division I Schools” category, which includes all local schools except USC and UCLA, the Pepperdine men’s volleyball team is up against Cal State Fullerton’s men’s basketball team and UC Irvine men’s soccer team.
The Pepperdine men’s volleyball team made it to the NCAA Championships final, defeating higher-seeded teams from UCLA, Long Beach State and BYU along the way. Their run ended in May at the national championship match, in a four-game loss to top-ranked Penn State.
