The following letter was addressed to State Assemblywoman Fran Pavley.
Regarding the taxation proposal for pick-ups and sport utility vehicles, it is difficult to understand why the Democrats have abandoned the poor and taken up the cause of the Eco-Nazi movement. This is an environmental movement that takes no responsibility for their actions and they prey on bureaucrats.
In Topanga and other rural townships in the county, small trucks are a necessity. A stiff fire code forces residents to haul away the cut weeds and brush. When the order to evacuate is given, residents pack up their belongings in small trucks and SUVs. Neighbors help neighbors.
Every rural community in Southern California has fallen victim of arson. Then come the rains. Waves of mud and rock cascade down the steep hillsides washing out the roadways. Four-wheel drive vehicles are a necessity in the rural areas and there is no excuse for targeting these people with a burdensome tax!
Your constituents have been subjected to unenforceable ordinances, excessive fees, and unnecessary regulations based on the whims of an environmental movement whose science has no basis in fact. We can only hope you represent common sense and vote no on this proposal.
