Students at Malibu High School have had a rough year … losing more than a month of classes to the fire and the mud.

Now comes word that they narrowly missed losing even more classroom days … due to a natural gas leak that bedeviled repair crews over the Christmas break.

The school board is being asked to approve an 86 thousand dollar plumbing bill … the cost of finding a mysterious natural has leak over winter break.

Gas was smelled by maintenance workers during winter break … plumbers were called … the Gas Company shut off the supplies … and crews started digging.

It took 12 days of night and day digging … overtime and on weekends … to find the leak.

It was detected one day before school was to resume … in January.

The 86 thousand dollar bill goes up for a school board vote Thursday.

Also on the agenda … the contract for temporary classrooms at the Point Dume school.
