to play?
I’m writing this letter on Sunday evening, so, granted, it may be a little of a “vent.” However, the root cause for the motivation of this letter is one that, I think, every one of us who lives in Malibu feels at some time between May and September-the dreaded summer traffic. When it takes some of us a half hour just to drive to the grocery store which is only a couple of miles away! Or when we’re stuck in bumper to bumper traffic going into town and it takes nearly an hour just to get to Sunset. And today, with the surf event up at Zuma, traffic in West Malibu was stop and go for miles. What’s to be done?
I say, we take a vote, and establish a summer weekend toll, similar to what they’ve recently put into effect in London. (Non-residents driving into central London from outside city limits have to pay a daily toll). It’s a win-win for Malibu. It would create revenue for the City, and it would give residents who pay taxes here some sort of break on the summer weekends. In the long run, it would also cut down on a lot of wasted gasoline as the cars crawl along PCH and emissions from many of the cars, as well. And, as a bonus, maybe we’d also get a break on the weekends, when most of us are at home, from the thundering herds of motorcycles. Charge them double on the toll!
I’ll be the first in line to vote. Anyone else?
