Water service has been restored to Malibu Country Estate residents who were without water for about six hours after a water main broke Thursday morning, though crews still have a big road collapse repair to make on Malibu Country Drive.
“We expect to have it open for residential traffic by 6 p.m.,” said Mike Kaspar, a spokesman for Los Angeles County Public Works.
Approximately 30-35 Water Works customers were affected by the main break.
The broken line left a gaping hole in the middle of Malibu Country Drive near Blue Dane Lane and caused the southbound side of the road to partially collapse on a stretch from Malibu Country Drive to John Tyler Drive.
Public Works expects to have a temporary fix in place by Thursday evening and will have to return Monday for a permanent fix.
When asked why the permanent fix could not be made Friday, Kaspar said the area would need time to settle overnight.
“Also, it’s a matter of allocating the resources [for the repairs],” he said.
