LET FREEDOM RING

Locals Barbra Streisand and Dustin Hoffman have earned accolades, so have legendary film director Martin Scorsese and legendary Laker Magic Johnson. Now, a few more names have been added to the ACLU honor role. They are Barbra?s ?The Way We Were? co-star Robert Redford and mega music exec Steve Schnur. The two were lauded for their good deeds at the annual ACLU Bill of Rights gala.

It was a night of celebrities, champagne and civil rights. Given the current political climate, there was no shortage of cocktail conversation at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Iconic ?Norma Rae? actress Sally Field, ?American Idol? judge Randy Jackson and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa were on hand to present this year?s awards, which give a tip of the hat to Hollywood?s top freedom fighters.

KUDOS FOR CAMERON

Congrats to Malibu moviemaker James Cameron. The ?Titanic? talent picked up two coveted Golden Globes last week. His worldwide blockbuster ?Avatar? got the gongs for best director and best drama. ?Avatar? is also up for a host of other national and international honors and could be on its way to an Academy win. Just like his mega-sweep with ?Titanic,? which won a whopping 11 Oscars in 1997, JC could leave the competition in his wake this year on Hollywood?s night of nights.

But even if he doesn?t strike Oscar gold, he has a claim to fame that no director in history can match. His ?Titanic? and ?Avatar? films have made billions at the box office and they are poised to become the two biggest movies in film history. That would make JC the biggest winner of all time. And the Oscar goes to? stay tuned.

?Tis the awards season and that means a nonstop schedule of gift suites, lavish luncheons, posh cocktail ?dos and of course, glitzy award shows: the Globes, SAG, Writers, Directors, People?s Choice, Critic?s Choice?all leading up to the biggie on Oscar night.
