Another Malibu election is here and the community still does not know whether the candidates are pro or anti commercial development. We may have retired the Chili Cook-Off site from development but looming across the street are almost 250,000 square feet of proposed commercial development. These sites include the La Paz project, 100,000 sq. ft. on15 acres, Papa Jack’s project, 31,000 sq. ft. on six acres, Aoki project, Malibu Bay Company, 65,000 sq. ft. on10 acres and the Wave project, 60,000 sq. ft on nine acres.
These projects are in very advanced stages with exception of the Wave property. The proposed wastewater treatment plant could resolve the biggest obstacle to these developments moving forward. Though there is little time left before the election, the community could benefit from knowing the candidates’ position on these large civic center developments.
