Please join me in voting yes on the Malibu school bond, Measure M. This is a vital step in protecting students, staff and teachers from any further exposure to PCBs and other toxic chemicals.
Based on further district testing, PCBs were found in various building materials beyond just the windows and doors. Throwing good money at sick buildings is not the solution—rebuilding these buildings is.
For the first time in history, all the funds for Measure M can only be used on Malibu schools!
The new Building E, being installed right now, cost the same amount as the district planned to spend renovating the old dilapidated, outdated building. America Unites found this vendor in 2014 and had plans drawn up. Last year, the FDAC—Malibu’s bond committee that is appointed by SMMUSD [school district]—presented these plans to the board and received unanimous approval. One year later, this building is being installed on our campus and will be ready early 2019 for students and staff to enjoy.
This is what happens when Malibu works together: We find innovative solutions that put students first and we are fiscally responsible with our funds. And this is exactly what we plan to do with Measure M—build a campus that is healthy, safe and environmentally sustainable to bring Malibu schools into 21st-century learning.
Please join me in supporting the passage of this bond and vote yes in November.
