Annetta Hagan Covany

Annetta Hagan Covany, who lived for years with her son, David, in his home on Tapia Drive in Malibu, died on Sept. 19. 

Covany was born in Baltimore, Md., on Oct, 2, 1923, one of 13 children. She grew up during the Great Depression. She experienced hard times as a youth. Annetta went to work to help out the family. She would tell the story of how her mother would send her to the butcher for a large meat bone for a dog they never owned to make soup for all the kids. 

She met her husband writing letters and sending cookies overseas during World War II; Delroy decided to find her when he was discharged from the service. They were married in Baltimore, Md., in 1946 and moved their family to California, where they made their life with their family. To this marriage was born: Michele (Mikey), Craig, Bradley, and David. Delroy and Annetta had 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. 

She is preceded in death by two sons, Craig and Bradley; husband, Delroy Jr. Covany; and one great-grandson, Sean Miller, as well as all her brothers and sisters, and parents, Ralph and Sophia Hagan.
