Pier opening party serving as Legacy Park fundraiser

With The Beachcomber Restaurant as its centerpiece, the Malibu Pier will have its official reopening on June 29 with a community celebration from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go toward the Malibu Legacy Park project. A silent auction will also take place to raise money for the project.

The party will include hors d'oevures that reflect the dishes from The Beachcomber menu. A Ketel 1 ice bar will feature signature Malibu Pier Club cocktails. Also several Malibu wineries-Cielo Estate, Malibu Vineyards, Rosenthal, Semler and Saddlerock Estates-will offer tastings of their wines. Entertainment will be provided by Stompy Jones, a San Francisco-based six-person swing band, and two pianists.

In addition to The Beachcomber, other highlights of the newly renovated Malibu Pier include the recently opened Malibu Pier Club Bar and Café, and the soon-to-open Ruby's Shake Shack, gift shop, bait and tackle shop, beach equipment rental shop, coastal boat tours, deep sea fishing boat tours and a surfing museum.

Tickets for the June 29 event are $75 for adults and $45 for children. To purchase them, go to www.malibulegacy.org. Those interested in contributing services, merchandise or expertise to the silent auction should contact Susan Shaw Noble at 310.924.2824.
