Terence Davis was appointed as the chair of the Malibu Playhouse Board of Directors at its June 24 meeting. He succeeds Geoff Ortiz, who recently resigned after serving as chair for 13 years. Malibu local Davis, who joined the Board of Directors in 2002, is currently its longest serving member.
“As a longtime member of this organization, I’m committed to supporting our new artistic director, Gene Franklin Smith, in his quest to bring professional theatre productions to Malibu,” Davis said in a statement. “I look forward to building on our past successes and working with the Board to support the Malibu Playhouse in its future endeavors.”
A composer and musician, Davis founded Great Music, Inc. in 1998. He composes and produces music for movies, television and theatre, including for the local playhouse, formerly known as the Malibu Stage Company. Davis is also the founder and producer of The Malibu Music Awards, and serves on the Board of the Pepperdine University Crest Associates and The Malibu Symphony Association.
“Terence brings a new energy to the position and he’s got a great fun-loving spirit,” board member Victoria Sterling said in a statement. “He’s a great showman and has been a strong promoter of our work, and his fundraising acumen as well as his theatre background will benefit the Malibu Playhouse as well as the community.”
