Local farmers need support

Six weeks ago I spoke at a farm symposium in WLA along with a representative from the South Central Farm. As local food growers we both talked about our farms and asked for support, understanding, and volunteers from the community. The South Central Farm was bulldozed. What’s going on here? Urban and suburban farms are perhaps the most unusual things on the planet, and they cannot survive without the active and fully conscious support of their local communities. Those who are lucky enough to have local food growers in their community, and who claim that they will not support their local heritage farms, are engaged in an act of sheer human criminality. This movement is only the beginning. Vital Zuman Farm and Farm Market is currently open Wednesday through Sunday beginning at noon. It is located on 29127 PCH off Heathercliff Road. For more information call 457.4356. Volunteers are welcome.
