On a day when the team’s seniors were honored, Malibu baseball kept its record-setting season rolling in a 7-5 win over Carpinteria High School, moving to 23-3 overall and 13-1 in league play.

The victory also avenged an early season loss to Carpinteria.

Junior Simon continued his impressive junior campaign by throwing six innings for the win. He’s now 9-1 on the year and 5-0 with one save in league play.

Seniors Riley McMillin, Alvie Alvarado and Frank Thomas were honored before the game and seemed to show their appreciation during the game, with McMillin and Thomas each knocking in singles and Alvarado garnering two hits.

Sophomore Austin George went 1 for 2 with two walks, two runs batted in and two runs scored to lead the Sharks offense, which scored two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth to seal the victory for the last home regular season game of the year.

The Sharks will close the season with the last game at Carpinteria on Thursday and wait for the CIF Playoffs to begin.

The Sharks’ 23-3 and 13-1 win-loss tallies set new school records this season and their current No. 2 CIF ranking should land them a good playoff spot, with the possibility of hosting a first-round CIF playoff game next week at Sharks Field for the first time in school history.Â
