A group of walkers will take part in the EIF Revlon Cancer Run/Walk on Saturday in honor of Deena Katz, who passed away in April after a three-year battle with breast cancer. It was her second in 20 years.
Katz was married to David Katz, the leader of the Malibu Search and Rescue Team. The all-volunteer team of deputy sheriffs rescues stranded hikers and other people in distress in the Malibu hills.
The group walking in Deena’s memory is currently running second in overall fundraising with two days to go until the Cancer Walk, which raises funds for breast cancer research and support for women.
“We want to finish in the top because it would make it an indelible memory to have Deena’s memory serve as that springboard,” Katz wrote.
