Paraglider defense

This is regarding “Paraglider death stirs debate,” published Aug. 20. The authority cited referred to the destruction or defacement of property. That’s a stretch, but he might have a point. However, I would challenge Mr. Edmiston to submit any other user group that has less impact on the natural environment than paragliders. With the exception of a small launch and landing area, we fly over the terrain to enjoy it from above. We don’t drop trash along trails (or from above for that matter) or cut across trails and switchbacks.

In fact, paraglider launch and landing areas are generally clear of trash, broken glass and beer cans. In addition, are there any other user groups that provide one million dollars of liability insurance to all of their participants? Hopefully, if Mr. Edmiston follows proper policy making procedures, he might find that we are one of the least intrusive users of SMMC land.
