The City of Malibu is welcoming writer/director Tom Shadyac to speak on Wed., Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. as part of the 2014 Malibu Library Speakers’ Series.

Shadyac is a comedy writer and director responsible for such films as “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” “The Nutty Professor,” and “Patch Adams.” He is also a New York Times bestselling author.

Shadyac is well known in the community after his eyebrow-raising speech at the Malibu High School graduation ceremony in June 2013. Although some found his address to be funny, others were shocked at lewd language used in his jokes.

The Speakers’ Series is a free program held at the Malibu Civic Theater on Stuart Ranch Road. According to the event page, it is designed to bring experts in subjects such as the Entertainment Industry, Literature, Science, Motivation, the Arts, Education, Sports, Travel, Food and the Environment to speak to the community.
