The Pepperdine University Waves baseball team completed a five-game conference sweep after earning a 19-4 victory over Santa Clara University on Sunday. During the conference series, the Waves won two games against the Loyola Marymount University Lions and three against the Santa Clara Broncos.
Austin Davidson topped off the series Sunday with a big game, scoring a careerhigh five runs. The sophomore third baseman was named the WCC player of the week after completing the sweep against Santa Clara. During the series, Davidson, an Oxnard native, hit .714 with five doubles, a home run, three RBI and seven runs scored against the Broncos.
Chris Amezquita also played well for the Waves, going three-for-five with two doubles, a home run and four RBI. Additionally, Kolten Yamaguchi, from Kona, Hawaii, enjoyed another strong day at the plate with a career-high four hits in four trips to the plate with two RBI.
Pepperdine scored twice in the first inning, but Santa Clara responded with three runs in the second, putting them up 3-2. The Waves countered with 17 unanswered runs, planting eight runs in the second, eight more in the third and a single run in the eighth to finish the game off.
The Pepperdine Waves set season single- game highs in runs (19), hits (21) and extra base hits (10) during the game. The team also matched its single-game high for home runs (2).
