Malibu High School came in at number 74 in the state on U.S. News and World Report’s Best High Schools list. Nationally, the local school ranked 386th and earned a “gold medal” from the group. Out of more than 2,000 high schools in California, around 600 made the list.

The report takes into account the school’s academic indicators, such as its ratings in the College Readiness Index and Academic Performance Index. It also cites the students’ opportunity to take Advanced Placement courses and exams, saying the AP participation rate at the school is 61 percent.

Other nearby schools to make high rankings include Westlake High School, which came in 55th in the state, Palisades Charter High School, at number 64 and Oak Park High School, which ranked 75th.

Malibu High has made the US News and World Report list in the past as well. Last year, the local school ranked 52nd in the state and 265th nationally.
