Members of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station wrap up another summer working in Malibu on the Beach Team patrol.

Residents and visitors that spent time at the beach this summer may have seen deputies in green shorts, patrolling Malibu’s beaches on matching quads. These were members of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station who were selected for the Beach Team. The team was assigned to work 40-hour work weeks on the beach during peak summer months, ensuring law enforcement and safety.

The team worked with the City of Malibu, making sure to have the team out during the city’s peak visitor season from Memorial Day through the weekend after Labor Day. Members of the team were handpicked by Lt. Jim Royal and Sgt. Fray Lupian to cover Malibu from East to West.

One task the team helped out with this summer was assisting beachgoers during the high surf resulting from Hurricane Marie. Members of the team performed checks and conducted traffic control to ensure safety and inform people of the dangerous surf conditions. The beach team was the first group on the scene when a 15-year-old male fell from the rocks at Point Dume.
