Mr. Perenchio is more than generous in agreeing to donate his 10-acre private golf course to the state after his death and the death of his wife. The property, which is zoned for 40 homes, would remain open space (eight acres) and wetlands (two acres). Through this fine act, Mr. Perenchio has truly shown his concern for the future of our community. A special “thank you” to Marcia Hanscom of Wetlands Action Network for her efforts in helping to make this happen. I hope the Malibu City Council, which appears to have sat on the sidelines throughout this entire process, in the future will work together with other organizations, such as Marcia’s, in order to protect the environment, lifestyle and the rural characteristics of the community, as called for in the Mission and Vision Statement of the Malibu General Plan.
