The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is calling on community members to submit original designs for a new district logo in a competition announced Tuesday.
The logo competition is part of a new branding strategy to communicate the district’s core values: diversity; arts and academics; the whole child; and community, collaboration, forward thinking and engagement.
All designs should also embody the district’s mission statement, “Extraordinary achievement for all students while simultaneously closing the achievement gap.”
Logos can be designed using any medium except photography, according to a release, and should be “simple, easily replicable and memorable.”
All designs must be submitted to the Superintendent’s Office by Friday, Nov. 1, 2013.
Submissions will be handed over to a panel of graphic design experts who will judge the submissions and refine selected concepts for further evaluation.
The winner will be announced in February 2014, and will have his/her name prominently featured on materials related to the SMMUSD rebranding process.
The submission form and more information can be found here.
