Malibu Rotary Club High School Vocal Competition winner Maggie Valdman recently went on to take second prize at the Rotary District Music Competition at Loyola Marymount University. The young opera singer has also been accepted to her first choice university — Juilliard School of Music in New York City.
Valdman is one of only 853 Juilliard admits, which make up only 6.7 percent of the applicant pool. The university is known for its classical music program but has recently added new programs in jazz studies. These programs are of interest to Valdman, who sings jazz music as well as classical.
