A car-filled celebration took place last week on Wednesday at the John Wayne Cancer Institute to commemorate the Margie and Robert E. Petersen Foundation’s $15 million donation.

More than $30 million worth of rare classic cars were on display during the party.Robert Peterson founded a magazine empire that gave birth to “Hot Rod,” “Motor Trend,” “Car Craft,” “Rod & Custom” and the Petersen Automotive Museum.

The donation will go to the the John Wayne Cancer Institute to name the cancer clinics in Saint John’s new Keck Diagnostic and Treatment Center. Scheduled to open next year, the Margie and Robert E. Petersen Foundation Cancer Clinics will be the clinical home of the Radiation Oncology Center, the Breast Center and the Cancer Clinic. Funds also will be used to support leading-edge cancer research.
