[Update, 5:40 p.m.] All lanes of Pacific Coast Highway in eastern Malibu have been reopened following three separate collisions involving six cars total, according to Cdr. Thompson of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.

There were reports of minor injuries, according to Thompson, but he had no further details on how many. At least one of the accidents involved a parked car, he said. It’s unclear whether the three crashes were related.

“I’m guessing there was some relation among the three collisions, but we’re still figuring that out,” he said.

Three collisions in eastern Malibu that were reported within minutes of each other shut down several lanes of Pacific Coast Highway in each direction, according to Deputy Joyce of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.

A city alert advised that all lanes of PCH were shut down near the Malibu Pier due to a traffic collision, but Joyce said the westbound lanes near the Pier were closed. He did not know whether all eastbound lanes were closed.

The crash near the Malibu Pier was reported in the 22800 block of PCH around 4:10 p.m., according to Joyce. Two other crashes in the eastern area were reported just 10 minutes later, Joyce said, in the 22300 block of PCH and in the 22600 block.

Joyce did not yet know if the collisions were related.

“We’re not sure if it was rubbernecking or maybe cars not slowing down in time,” he said.

Information on injuries and the number of cars involved was not immediately available.
