[Update: 2:07 p.m.] The small spot fire reported off Kanan Dume Road at Tunnel 2 was reported “out” by the City of Malibu a little less than an hour after calls initially went out to the fire department reporting the smoldering brush.

According to officials with LA County Fire there is no official “knock down” time for the fire, since there were never flames visible, but personnel left the scene at 1:57 p.m., indicating the area was safe and embers were doused.

A team of firefighters from LA County Fire, together with an engine company out of LA City Fire Department were on scene of a small spot fire on Kanan Dume Tuesday afternoon, described at 1/8 acre smoldering, but as of 1:10 p.m. the scene was being “mopped up.”

Sheriff’s officials said one southbound lane of Kanan Dume Road was closed at Tunnel 2, but no other road closures were in effect Tuesday just after 1 p.m.

Crews were dispatched at 12:41 p.m. Tuesday to a reported brush fire.

“Dispatching tech said it was on Kanan a half a mile north of Mulholland,” LA County Fire Inspector Richard Licon told The Malibu Times. “LA City sent a response as well to assist… [they arrived] on scene reporting 1/8 acre of brush smoldering.”

As of 1:10 p.m. Tuesday Licon reported the crews were “mopping up now.”
