Santa Monica is adding bus lanes to Lincoln Boulevard

Street resurfacing continues …. across Malibu.

The Malibu College campus construction project gets a new boss.

And science geeks rejoice … a giant in space exploration … will be at the Malibu Library later this month.

This is Malibu’s only local daily news.

It’s the Thursday edition … from Radio Malibu  …. 97 point 5 K B U.

Good morning Westward Beach!

——

Santa Monica plans to add bus only lanes on Lincoln Boulevard.

The route  … formerly was state Route 1 … but Caltrans has given up control of it and let Santa Monica take over.

It still is a major link from Malibu to L-A-X and other places south and east of here.

The city is now building new medians and landscaping … and better crosswalks.

South of Pico Boulevard … streetside parking will be eliminated during rush hours …. and the new curb lanes will be bus only.

This bus lane will be in operation from 7 to 9 am only northbound … and 4-6 p-m southbound … and only on Lincoln between Pico and the southern city limits … in Venice.

The city of L-A has similar rush hour parking rules on many major streets.

And on Wilshire Boulevard … L-A also has bus lanes only on the curbside.

But .. and this is unusual… Santa Monica is not going to allow bicycles to use the bus lane.

That should be interesting.

The Malibu street resurfacing project continues … with a few scheduling hitches.

The repaving of Guernsey Avenue is now scheduled for tomorrow … Friday.

Big Rock Drive is to be repaved…. but the city notices are not clear on exactly when.

Slurry coating for streets in the Malibu park neighborhood is scheduled for a week from Monday.

We’ll keep you posted.

There’s an increase in gang violence in the western San Fernando Valley.

The L-A Daily News reports that there are 16 gangs operating in the West Valley … according to the LAPD.

The number of violent gang-related crimes has gone up over the past three years, from 177 in to 289 per year.

The L-A city council is sending a little money— 50 thousand dollars —- to the Mayor’s Office of Gang Reduction and Youth Development to figure out what’s happening.

The city of L-A’s anti-gang efforts include education campaigns, gun buybacks and seasonal programs like Summer Night Lights.

These community youth events are held in parks at night to deter them from become gang hangout locations.

What does this have to do with Malibu??

These gang members have in years past been known to congregate at beaches …. and a re a major reason why Malibu spends city moneyon summer beach team supplemental sheriff’s deputies.

the bigger gang problem in the Malibu area … however … may be the Oxnard gangs that claim beaches near Point Mugu as their turf.

Robberies… fights and a few violent assaults have been reported by Ventura County sheriff’s deputies … at night … at parking lots and secluded locations along roads west of Malibu.
