I was elated to read the Malibu Seen article by Kim Devore on Lilly Lawrence. Lilly is the first and only resident of Malibu who supports the Clean Water program and Adopt-A-Stormdrain. Other supporters are Malibu businesses like HOW’s Market, Heal The Bay and other corporations. You will see banners along Pacific Coast Highway naming the sponsors.
The City of Malibu is working hard at cleaning up our coastal waters and the ultimate goal is to reduce or eliminate “dry weather” flow through the storm drains. The storm drains were designed to move rainwater from our streets to avoid flooding. Controlling the “dry weather” flow reduces the amount of pollutants entering our oceans. (Excerpt from the city Web site www.ci.malibu.ca.us)
Malibu is thankful for residents like Lilly Lawrence who support our passion for clean water and cleaner oceans.
