Local resident Pattie McCann Tracy recently released a new children’s picture book, “Pono Finds His Flippers.”
Appropriate for children ages three to eight, the fictional tale centers around a boy named Pono who lives in a tropical paradise with his seal friend, Lani. Pono longs to join Lani every time she goes out to sea, but cannot do so because he does not have flippers of his own. Pono’s mother learns of her son’s dilemma and teaches him how to swim, allowing Pono and Lani to explore the land and the sea together.
Inspired by her experience as a swim instructor, Tracy said she hopes her book will encourage children to learn how to swim this summer, as so many are fearful of the water before taking lessons.
