Malibu Mayor Pro Tem Lou La Monte recently announced that he has been appointed to Los Angeles County’s Commission on Alcohol and Other Drugs by the County Board of Supervisors.

The commission works to advise the County Board of Supervisors on alcohol and drug issues with the goal of reducing negative impacts of substance abuse disorders. Its activities include recommending appropriate ways to implement legislation in the county; recommending programs regarding enforcement, medication, prevention and rehabilitation related to drug and alcohol abuse; organizing and assisting in conferences on abuse, addiction and treatment; working to educate the public about addiction; and encouraging public support.

For years, LaMonte has worked with issues that the commission deals with as part of the Malibu City Council, the League of California Cities and the California Contract Cities Association.

“I am honored to serve in this role, and I am committed to ensuring that patients and recovering substance abusers have the opportunity to receive quality, affordable and competent residential care in local communities while balancing the needs and interests of the residents of the neighborhoods where that community care is provided,” La Monte said in a statement provided by the City of Malibu.
