Mary Kathleen “Jo” Bailey died on Nov. 7. She was 88 years old.
Bailey was born in Duluth, Minnesota to Charles Call and Mary Flatley Call. In 1945, she moved to Southern California with her parents, brother and sister. She met her husband Fred W. Bailey Jr. while attending UCLA. They were married in July 1948 and celebrated over 67 years of marriage.
Fred and Jo settled in the San Fernando Valley with their four children and moved to Malibu in 1969 where they resided for over 40 years. In 2010, Fred and Jo moved to the Westlake Island in Westlake Village.
Jo also spent time volunteering with the Sister Winifred Auxiliary at Saint Anne’s Maternity hospital in Los Angeles. She served as president of the auxiliary numerous times.
Jo is survived by her husband Fred, two sons Glenn and Phil Bailey, daughters Linda Bailey and Anne Cole, and grandchildren Michael Bailey and Bailey Bonura. The entire family was with her throughout her final days.
“Jo was a loving and caring mother and brought joy to all of those who knew her,” a loved one said. “She led a blessed life and has a wonderful smile that she shared with all.”
A memorial mass will take place on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 11 a.m. at St Jude’s Catholic Church in Westlake Village. A reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Anne’s Hospital in Los Angeles.
