If one can get past the garbage being thrown at the present city council and look at their proven abilities to direct this community in a measured and reasonable way, there is no question that Ken Kearsley and Jeff Jennings would be returned to office, thanked for their service, and appreciated for their ability to stay cool in the face of so much misinformation. As the council now stands, three educators, one lawyer and a civic activist comprise the council. All are longtime residents with substantial resumes in service to the community. All are people of excellent character. All have an understanding that politics is the art of the possible, and all have sincerely tried to place the serious issues that face us squarely in front of the voters.
They put the city center park measure (M) before the voters, but left it up to the citizens of Malibu to make that decision for themselves. They are being challenged by one admitted one-time developer (Liebig) another (Mazza), who stated in the recent education forum that he does some developing in Laguna and one ex-council member so bound to the dogma of no-growth, that he seems unaware that there are laws that give people rights to determine what they do with their property. There is so much muck being thrown about thatI need to say how I feel about the very good people who have spent so many hours rebuilding the reputation of this city among state and federal agencies, so many hours at interminable council meetings, often being vilified and still being able to remain civil. They work well with others. I know them to be good stewards of the land with no motives other than wanting to keep this community a healthy place for us all to live.
