Professionalism, excellence needed

There is a candidate I feel would well serve Malibu through a position on our City Council: Kathy Wisnicki. We know Kathy as a current school board member and as the former president of the School Board of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. Some know she has a Ph.D. in education from UCLA. Many know she served on the Board of the Malibu Chamber of Commerce, and the Board of the Malibu Foundation for Youth and Families. Kathy’s emphasis has been on education, but in that capacity, Kathy has become expert in issues impacting the City of Malibu, from its budget, to revenue sources, to land use, to cooperation with government entities.

I’ve volunteered with Kathy for 12 years. In my view, there is not another candidate with her depth and breadth of experience, nor with her effective leadership style, intellectual capacity, or work ethic. Kathy is a quiet, capable, listener. She sees all sides of an issue. She is cautious. Kathy will not rush to judgment or to condemn. She considers it a matter of personal pride to come to every issue thoroughly prepared. It is also a matter of pride that she gets along with her colleagues, even those with whom she disagrees. As we grow as a city, this kind of professionalism and excellence is what we need to protect what we love about Malibu. I hope Malibu citizens will consider casting in their vote for Kathy Wisnicki for City Council on April 8.
