There have been many concerns about the authenticity and objectivity of the Lily’s forum. Beverly Taki’s scripted performance at the event proved these concerns to be true.
How is it that Beverly Taki was the only candidate to read her answers from a notebook to the questions she wasn’t supposed to have in advance? The audience was often treated to long literary dissertations which sounded like pasteurized milk, and tasted like canned spam.
That notebook was apparently missing a page when Ms. Taki was asked a spontaneous question during crossfire about proposed changes to the Malibu subdivision law. Her answer was a resounding “I haven’t a clue.” We expect a candidate with a real estate background to know about laws that would alter the number of single family homes in Malibu.
If candidates are unfamiliar with zoning changes discussed by our own City staff, how in the world will they do their homework to defend us against the Coastal Commission’s LCP? All I have to say to Ms Taki is: It’s not enough to know that the LCP is 135 pages long, as you said at the Forum. We need candidates to understand what it says. And I hope that Ms. Taki understands that serving on the City Council is entirely without a script.
