More than 35 million Americans suffer from allergies. To help ease our suffering, the American Association for Respiratory Care offers the following advise:
- Stay indoors with the air conditioning on as much as possible during the height of pollen season.
- If you must go outside during adverse conditions, try to do so only in the early morning or late evening. Midday is when pollen and spores are at their highest.
- Avoid common irritants like smoke, dust, smog, fumes, aerosol sprays, cold air and excessive humidity.
- Keep your resistance high by eating properly and getting ample rest.
- To help your doctor find allergens affecting you, keep a record of activities and events that accompany your allergic symptoms.
- Check with your doctor before taking an over-the-counter remedy that might interfere with prescription drugs you are taking.
