Kanan Rollover Crash

[Tuesday] Traffic was fully reopened on Kanan Dume Road at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials.

[10:55 p.m.] Kanan Dume Road remains closed due to downed power lines and is expected to be closed all night, according to a City of Malibu emergency services alert.

[6 p.m.] Kanan Dume Road remains shut down due to downed power lines, according to the LA County Sheriff’s dispatch desk. It will probably remained closed “the rest of the evening.”

[2:50 p.m. update] Crews remain on scene dealing with downed wires that fell as a result of the rollover. CHP now says the road could be blocked as long as four hours while non-live wires are cut. The wires apparently belong to Edison and Verizon.

The road closure is on Kanan Dume Road at the intersection of Latigo Canyon Road, south of Mulholland Highway, according to the CHP log.

As of 1:45 p.m., lanes remained blocked at the scene of the crash and drivers were having to turn around and take Malibu Canyon Road as an alternate route.

At least one person was injured Monday in a rollover crash on Kanan Dume Road near the tunnels, according to the California Highway Patrol. Lanes in all directions were temporarily blocked as of 11:45 a.m. and witnesses said power lines were blocking the roadway.

The overturned vehicle was first reported at 11:09 a.m. and both LA County Sheriffs and CHP were dispatched to the scene. One victim was transported to Los Robles Hospital. The CHP estimated the road would be shut down until at least 12:45 p.m., possibly later.
