Portrait artist Johanna Spinks graciously welcomed hundreds of guests to the opening reception for the Face of Malibu gallery at Malibu City Hall on Friday, Oct. 6.

The gallery, sponsored by the Malibu Arts Commission (and coordinated by arts commissioner Alan Roderick-Jones), displays the portrait sketches Spinks has completed as she’s worked toward creating the Face of Malibu series, featured monthly in The Malibu Times.

The gallery opening drew massive crowds to City Hall, including many portrait subjects who were able to view their own sketches in person. In all, 60 portraits from the Face of Malibu series were on display, in addition to other portraits Spinks has created over the years.

The gallery will be on display through Jan. 12 at Malibu City Hall.
