The Malibu Half Marathon and 5K Run/Walk recently gifted the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu $53,178.27, proceeds raised from the annual race event. On Monday, the organization presented the check to the Boys & Girls Club Teen Center.
“The Malibu Half Marathon is all about building community, so I’m beyond thrilled that we are able to support the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu in such a big way this year,” race director Erica MacVittie said in a statement provided by Malibu Half Marathon. “This event showcases not just the beauty of Malibu that’s known worldwide, but also the generosity of our runners and our volunteers. To watch the community come together like this a year after the heartbreaking Woolsey Fire is just really special.”
According to numbers provided by MacVittie, the annual race “started with a donation of $600 in 2015, followed by a donation of $5,000 in 2016 and over $16,000 in 2017. In 2018, the money raised nearly doubled to $30,000 and this year we set a new record!”
The director also named the race’s sponsors, Rusnak BMW, New Balance Los Angeles, Pepperdine’s Graziadio School of Business and Management, Veritas Farms, Bright Event Rentals and KIND Snacks, who helped make the event possible.
